With Hongkong protesters now targetting mainland China over elections, it is a relief that they have momentarily forgotten the Manila hostage of their tourists in August 2010. Also, we are now in conflict with the same country. The Philippines has moved for arbitration with China over common territorial boundaries over the seas.
What if we had settled our conflict with Hongkong before this time? Wouldn't we be able to rely on them now regarding our differences with China? These are the missed opportunities of protracted conflict.
