"Be Still in Your Mind"

According to Rick Hanson, "tasks are not like boulders a la Sisuphus' that we repeatedly push upward then fall.  They are more like clouds vaporous, insubstantial, soft, yielding, fluid like streams we step into and contribute before they swirl on and become something new:

1. Impermanence= continually changing

2. Compoundness= all made up of parts

3. Interdependence= changing parts arise and pass away

Therefore, he shies away from labels but sees them as frothy foam on transient waves in our ocean of a universe. Relax, flow into our clouds of responsibilities, relationships and roles. We are clouds ourselves, flowing into, through and beyond them."

2- way door Rule

"People.with EQ embrace this Rule on bad decisions:

1.  Type 1-way door= impossible to reverse, like firing an employee, selling a business, ending a vendor-supplier relationship

2. Type 2-way door= reversible, like hiring an employee, starting a business, providing new service can be tweaked, modified, reversed."

Tit for Tat

In MASH, Dr. Charles Winchester bristled having to train Korean local surgeons. They repaid him by accupuncturing his bad back.

Merdeka

In BBC's Greatest Asian Railways, it was said that before its independence, Malaysia consulted persons, even the British for its National Anthem. Their leader Tunku Abdul Rahman chose a common burlesque tune instead for its Merdeka song.

Faux Nap

"1. Close eyes for 5 minutes, with soothing music notice any thoughts coming.

  2. Daydream while looking at a photo/artwork. Let your mind wander while focusing on your feeling. Jot down flashes of inspiration or insight. Notice your state and pull yourself out at will.

  3. Breathe from the diaphragm or belly for mental energy."

Garbage Time

For us, it is Tuesday and Friday. For Jerry Seinfeld, it the ordinary and mundane, like maybe taking them out for pickup tomorrow. For Jeff Haden, it is unplanned and without pressure to meet expectation at work. But exceeds it.

Neither Waste Norway

They are neither Dutch nor Scottish but this Royal Family is a model of wise spending.

"Norwegian King Harald and Queen Sonja with a net worth of $30 M have annual expenses of up to $7 M to maintain their 9 homes. (That is frugal compared to Queen Elizabeth II' bill to UK citizens of $500 M for her 26 castles and such. But, of course, QE2's net worth is so much more.)

Thus, Norwegian royals are known to take public land and air transport. Children go to public or at best cathedral schools.  It is common practice for them to have joint celebrations. Their sports is also rather common. Having participated in the Olympics thrice and winning Second Prize in the Sailing World Championship in Toronto at 79, King Harald took his family on a South African surfing holiday the next year."

No wonder they feel so secure hobnobbing with their people.

Vehnee Saturno

"As a boy in a farm, he would cry every morning that he had to work in the field. In high school, he knew his muse was music.

His first hit, "Be My Lady" did not win an award at first till it was recorded by Martin Nievera and later, Matt Munro.

Another hit, "Forever's Not Enough," became a signature disc for Sarah Geromino, too.

For him, a song is like a dress for a certain singer with the voice range of the notes.

He attributes his talent and inspiration to God for which he is deeply grateful that his children will continue receiving royalties long after he is gone, when his songs will still be around."

Ninoy

Despite the solitary confinement and false accusation, he was grateful for the time he had to read the Bible, especially Job, and spend time with the family during their hour's daily visit.

Aristotle's Good Life

"1. Hedonic- comfort, stability, social
relationships in the family, job, residence...

  2. Eudaimonic- sense of purpose in making
a difference in the world as a nurse, teacher,
       volunteer or environmental activist...who
gains fulfillment in contributing to the
       greater good."
